How to live in alignment with your values
January 29, 2024
- Are you living a life that’s aligned to your values?
- Are your values reflected in how you spend your time?
- Does your budget reflect your values?
When we live in alignment with our values, we feel good.
In order to do this, two things must be true:
- We need to be very clear on what our core values are
- We need to make choices that give those values life.
When our decisions don’t match up with the values we aspire to live into, we can feel out of integrity with ourselves.
That said, many of us live in conflict every day. For example, I might value joy, but I don’t allocate much time in my schedule for activities that bring me joy. Or I value community, but prioritize building community for others – and excluding myself from community.
One of my favorite activities that’s a part of The Art of Coaching workshop is around core values. It’s a meaningful exploration of a key Transformational Coaching strategy. It’s an activity that I come back to every year to consider whether my core values have changed, or remained the same. As I ground in my core values, I find it easier to make decisions that reflect them.
This year, perhaps for the first time, I’m seeing tight congruence between how I spend my time and my values. I’m seeing how my beliefs have evolved to wrap around my values. I’m seeing how my values infuse my disposition. It’s all coming together…and that’s a relief.
