A skilled facilitator blends repetition and variety into their design.Â
‍
When my team comes together for a meeting or PD, there are things they can always count on. We always have time to transition, set and share intentions, and reflect on what we learned about ourselves and the organization.Â
‍
When my team comes together for a meeting or PD, there are normally one or two new things or things we haven’t done in a while. Anticipatory gratitude is one such activity I utilized recently and invite you to try it out. Â
‍
How to incorporate anticipatory gratitude in your next PD agenda:
- Look at the agenda and consider what we’re going to cover today
- Determine one thing that you want to appreciate about yourself by the end of the meeting. Consider the 3Bs: your behaviors, beliefs, and ways of beingÂ
- Identify a team norm that will be supportive to make that a realityÂ
- If you don’t have strong team norms, this will helpÂ
- Write down your anticipatory appreciation for yourself somewhere you can see itÂ
- If in a shared space, consider using Post-its and having everyone place them somewhereÂ
- End the meeting with a reflectionÂ
- What did you appreciate about yourself?
- How did having anticipatory gratitude impact your experience?Â
This one activity…
- Creates agency
- Harnesses intentionalityÂ
- Builds appreciationÂ
…those are big wins with very little investment!Â
