Six Questions All Coaches Need Answers to
August 19, 2024
If I could wave a magic wand, every single school-based coach would have clarity around these six areas before their first day on the job:
- A definition of coaching at your school/in your organization
- Your responsibilities (if there are any outside of coaching)
- How many teachers you’ll coach, and how the focus for coaching is determined (whether the focus is a school goal, a teacher’s professional practice goal, a district initiative, etc.)
- Your schedule
- How often you’ll meet with your principal/site admin, and what the purpose of those meetings is
- What information is shared with admin about your coaching clients
If you are a coach and don’t have a high level of confidence about these, I implore you to schedule a meeting with your admin to get answers.
If you’re an admin, I implore you to schedule a meeting with your coaches to ensure they have the information they need.
