Three Things That Need to Happen in Every Transformational Coaching Conversation
August 25, 2022
Last week on the podcast, I shared my top considerations for a thriving coaching program. These included the three things that need to happen in every Transformational Coaching conversation:
- Trust must be built, deepened or repaired
- Beliefs must be explored
- Clients must be solving their own problems
Today, I’m sharing a set of reflection prompts for your consideration:
- How consistently are these happening in your coaching conversations?
- How do you know?
- What is one thing you could focus on today that would strengthen your practice?
There are several things that distinguish Transformational Coaching from other coaching approaches. One of those is the focus on beliefs. Too often I see coaches limit their focus to behaviors. At best, this results in temporary changes. In order to make sustained transformation, we must explore the underlying beliefs that drive those behaviors. Doing so requires skillful practice.
When we created our Art of Coaching workshop, there was no question that coaching beliefs would be one of the essential skills we developed with our participants. And we knew that to teach participants how to coach beliefs, they needed to be guided through the experience of exploring their own. You can almost see the light bulbs go off as people experience this part of the workshop. It is a joy to behold.
Skillful, intentional practice is a game changer. If you want to grow your confidence and impact, I really hope you consider joining us for an upcoming workshop. I know you will love it!
