What would you really love to say about this month when it ends?
October 2, 2023
It’s a new month with new possibilities for growth—if you are intentional. This fall, in the final Monday newsletter for the month, I’m offering you Look Back prompts; in the first Monday newsletter of the month, I’m providing Look Forward prompts. These sets of prompts work together and are intended for yourself and coachees and/or team. (If you missed last Monday’s prompts, you can find them here).
Look Forward:
Identify one person in your professional circles with whom you would like to connect this month.
- Where could this happen?
- What could you do right now to set this up?
- What do you hope will come from this connection?
What’s one aspect of your practice (as a coach, teacher or leader) that you want to refine this month? For example: redirecting off-task student behavior, responding to family/caregiver emails, asking facilitative coaching questions, or holding silence. Identify one small slice to work on.
- What would be true if you refined this skill?
- When/where will you have opportunities to work on this skill?
What do you want to say about this month when it ends? Let yourself think big and expansively, and not be limited with something like, That I made it through.
What would you really love to say about this month when it ends?
These prompts invite action. You (or your coachee) could create mini-goals or action plans around them, but even if that doesn’t happen, they serve as intentions. The mind will be primed to fulfill this commitment.
In a couple of weeks, I’ll tell you the science behind why intentions work—it’s truly fascinating.
In the meantime, pick up that pen and write about these! (And yes, write by hand if you are able to. There’s also a ton of research that says that writing by hand is much better than writing on a computer--including that you remember a lot more of what you write, you sort out your thoughts more thoroughly, you make more creative connections between ideas).
